One Shropshire schoolboy enjoyed a “monster” birthday when he was taken into school in a custom-made truck.

Matt McGeown celebrated his ninth birthday yesterday when his uncle collected him from his home in Broseley, near Bridgnorth, and delivered him to school in style in a monster truck.

The youngster, who lives in Coalport Road, Broseley, attends Birchfield School in Albrighton and was handed the special birthday surprise by his uncle Mark Phillips.

And Matt’s mum Joy McGeown, 40, said he was delighted with his gift.

She said: “He left at 7.30am morning to get to school and he was very excited.

“He had his party yesterday so it is always a little bit of an anti-climax the next day when you go to school. But when he saw the truck on the drive his eyes were popping out of his head.

“He is really into cars and trucks and this was the perfect present for him.”

Matt’s journey to school took him past RAF Cosford and down to the school, where his arrival certainly caused quite a stir.

Mrs McGeown added: “There were quite a few of his friends who saw him arrive and I think they were most impressed.

“He got the chance to sound the big American air horn as well. It took him quite a long time to get there in the truck because of the distance and because the truck is so big but I think he loved every minute of it.

“My brother builds Land Rovers for a living and he has built this truck based on a Land Rover. He has always been promised

Matt, who has a younger sister Emmie, four, had enjoyed a birthday party with family and friends on Sunday before the trip.
