A Shropshire and Mid Wales caravan dealership has reported record £4 million sales for last month.

Salop Leisure, based at Emstrey in Shrewsbury, sold 100 caravan holiday homes and 100 touring caravans and motorhomes during October for the first time in its history.

The record sales were boosted by the West Midlands Caravan and Motorhome Show, which was hosted by Salop Leisure and attracted more than 12,000 visitors from across the UK and Europe over 10 days.

Managing director Mark Bebb said he was delighted with the record sales.

He said: “Customers have been keen to place orders now for the 2011 holiday season to beat the VAT increase to 20 per cent from January 4 next year.”

He added: “The West Midlands Caravan and Motorhome Show was one of our best ever events, attracting visitors from all corners of the UK.

“We are also seeing a growing number of caravanners and campers from continental Europe, who are taking advantage of the favourable exchange rates to holiday in Shropshire and Wales.

“The continued weakness of sterling against other currencies, the increases in airport taxes and the renewed threat of terrorism are certain to persuade even more British people to spend their holidays exploring this island next year.”
