1960s crash Jaguar restored to former glory
Saturday 3rd April 2010, 12:29PM BST.
It was left in a crumpled heap after a high-speed crash in 1964 which saw German racing driver Peter Lindner lose his life.
Now, more than 45 years on, this unique Jaguar E-Type has been remarkably returned to its former glory following a painstaking three-year restoration.
The luxury car, expected to be worth seven figures when it is finished, is currently with Jaguar specialists Classic Motor Cars Ltd in Bridgnorth.
Experts there have spent more than 4,000 hours working on the vehicle, which was modified for racing in the 1960s to make it the only one in the world.
It is expected to be back on the road for the first time since the crash next summer.
German-born racer Lindner was behind the wheel of the Jaguar when it crashed during a 621-mile race on the Montlhery circuit just outside Paris in 1964.
Another driver, Franco Patria from Italy, was also killed in the smash, as well as three race officials.
Classic Motor Cars Ltd managing director, Nick Goldthorp, said: “When the car was brought into us, the body work was very badly damaged. It was completely destroyed after the crash.
“But thank goodness it hadn’t been botched up by anyone in the years after the crash so we knew it could be restored.”
