Hundreds of thousands of people already volunteer with environmental charity BTCV, including many in the Black Country region. The charity has recently honoured some of its most committed volunteers and next month, celebrity gardener Charlie Dimmock will present its green heroes with their awards.
Honda Do It
BTCV conservation holidays are all about improving the environment and making a positive contribution to people and places visited. They offer an experience of a lifetime where volunteers get ity to meet people they wouldn’t normally meet and do things they didn’t think they could do.
Between now and October 19, Honda is donating £5 to BTCV for every test drive of the new Insight hybrid car. Available at all participating Honda dealerships across the UK and Northern Ireland, this fundraising initiative is part of the company’s ‘Everyone Wants To Be Good’ campaign.
Back in 1986, Honda revealed the first incarnation of one of its big do’s – a humanoid robot that could function independently in a human environment and ultimately help people in their daily lives. And after 25 years of doing, the company has developed ASIMO – the most advanced humanoid robot in the world.
BTCV is the UK’s leading green volunteering charity, with the world’s largest team of volunteers operating locally throughout the UK and in 26 countries. BTCV’s volunteering projects are a chance to get active, improve your fitness and well-being, and improve the local environment.
Honda has recently teamed up with BCTV, the UK’s leading green volunteering charity, to promote environmental activities happening near you. BTCV makes a significant impact on the UK and International environment by inspiring 300,000 people to look after more than 50,000 places.
One of the UK’s leading volunteering websites has reported a huge increase in the amount of people wanting to contribute last year since the previous year. YouthNet, home of the website doit.org.uk, reported a massive rise of 115 per cent in the number of people applying to volunteer in 2008.
The Honda team’s latest volunteering stint was a busy day down at the Cherry Orchard allotments. The allotments are a great source of pleasure for people who live locally, but don’t have their own garden to enjoy. We helped to weed, dig and tidy the allotments.
Today the Honda team has been cleaning graffiti, picking litter and generally clearing up at Slough canal. It’s all part of a regeneration project to make Slough canal a much nicer place to be. It’ll take more than just a day, but we’re pleased to help kick start the transformation.
It’s been all hands on deck for the Honda team this week at our local gardening centre, Wexham nursery. The nursery works with a disability charity that helps to offer meaningful employment to disabled people.
