Shrewsbury town centre will be packed with performers from around the world for the next few days as part of the International Street Theatre Festival.

Thousands of people were expected to head out on the streets of Shrewsbury over the course of today, tomorrow and Sunday to check out the different acts on four different stages in and around the town centre.

Spokesman Neville Street said: “Across the weekend, we expect about 25,000 people.”

The annual festival has been slimmed down this year after losing Arts Council funding. Organisers had sought £67,500 from the body to help pay the costs of the 2011 and 2012 festivals but were turned down.

We’ve had the flower show, the folk festival and now the street theatre festival. Shrewsbury is a pretty good place to live.
