Shrewsbury and District Ladies’ Circle is reformed
Monday 1st November 2010, 9:48AM GMT.
Friends have joined together to re-form a Shropshire social group, which ran for 54 years before folding in 2003.
The Shrewsbury and District Ladies’ Circle group is part of a national organisation for women aged 18 to 45.
The group raises money for good ca-uses, supports businesses and offers a way to meet new people.
The new Shrewsbury group will have social me- etings every first and third Thursday of the month, starting on November 4.
Plans to re-form the group are the brainchild of friends Michelle Doody, chairman, Rebecca Hutchinson, treasurer, and Lisa Jones, secretary.
The meetings will cover a range of activities, days out and social events.
Ms Doody said: “My friends and I started talking about how hard it is to meet new people when you move to a new area or when you leave education.
“We all say we should meet up more often, as many friends do, but never seem to organise ourselves even though we all live and work nearby.
“We looked into the Ladies’ Circle and realised there was nothing local to Shrewsbury so we all got together and agreed to restart the group, meaning we can regularly meet up, meet more people, have fun, network, support local businesses and raise money for good causes all at the same time. We are now just looking for people to join.”
The new group has started to build a website, Twitter and Facebook account where existing and potential members can find out the latest news, view the meeting calendar and find information on fundraising and how charities and groups can apply for funding.
The calendar of events is being finalised. Planned events range from cocktail nights, wine tasting and the theatre, to hawk flying, ice skating and quad biking.
