Smith keen on end to uncertainty

Boss Rob Smith is eager to see the uncertainty over his AFC Telford United future resolved – so planning can begin for next season.
Smith and his assistant Larry Chambers are both out of contract in the summer and speculation is mounting that they may leave the club after a season that has seen them miss out on the Blue Square North play-offs.
And Smith believes the position has to be resolved so that the club can begin to make plans for the 2010-11 campaign.
“It’s frustrating in some ways because I can’t talk to my players,” said Smith, whose side were beaten 4-2 by Corby in their final home game of the season on Saturday,
“I don’t think it’s helping anyone but it looks like the club are going to wait to the end of the season.
“It’s not an ideal situation, but it’s totally in the hands of the chairman and the board.
“Myself and Larry have targets in mind we’d go for and there are players like Kevin O’Connor we could have signed and sealed – but we can’t do anything.”
Smith remains convinced that he could turn things around given the opportunity, but revealed that he had not had any dialogue with the club hierarchy for a fortnight.
“Nobody’s spoken to me in two weeks,” said the Bucks boss. “I’ve made it clear that I want to stay at the club, but I also understand that it’s a results-based industry and this year we’ve fallen short.
“I don’t think I’ve become a bad manager overnight, I know where the problems are, and whether I get the chance to put it right is down to the club.
“We’ve had a terrific time here and generally been very successful. In my whole management career I’ve never lost as many games, I’ve never known anything like it.”
