Superficial damage was caused to Bridgnorth’s town hall after a car ploughed into market stalls underneath it and left 14 people injured, council bosses revealed today.

It comes as two people seriously injured in the crash on Friday afternoon remained in a stable condition in hospital today.

Anne Wilson, acting clerk at Bridgnorth Town Council, said people in the market town were still in shock following the smash.

She said: “People from the town, the council and the mayor all send their best wishes to those who have been injured and we wish them a speedy recovery.”

On the town hall, Mrs Wilson said: “A building inspector from Shropshire Council came out to assess the town hall and there is superficial damage to the building.”

Bridgnorth Town Council is holding an extraordinary meeting on April 29 when the impact of the crash will be discussed by councillors.

Maria Hawkaluk, spokeswoman for West Mercia Police, said: “Two men who suffered head injuries remain in hospital.

“A man in his 80s is stable and improving and a man in his 70s is poorly but stable.”

Among the casualties was a woman in her 70s who suffered a heart attack when she saw the crash and was taken to Princess Royal Hospital in Telford. An investigation has been launched into the cause of the smash.
