Council defends polling station change

Monday 19th April 2010, 10:33AM BST.

One Telford man has said a change in polling station venue will have a damaging impact on voters in the area.

People in Donnington can no longer visit the Lifelong Learning Centre to cast their vote. Instead they have to go to Turreff Hall in Donnington Wood. And John Langley, of St Matthews Road, Donnington, said people on his street were being asked to vote in the hall.

He said: “It doesn’t seem to make any sense. At a time when we are trying to get more people to vote we are making it more and more difficult for people to do so.”

But a Telford & Wrekin Council spokesman said the decision had been made because votes from two different wards were being counted at the same venue, the Lifelong Learning Centre.
