Witnesses have told of the horrific moment they saw a car hurtle into a crowded market in Bridgnorth and send shoppers and stallholders flying like skittles.

A major rescue operation swung into action which saw 14 people taken to hospital following the smash which happened underneath Bridgnorth Town Hall yesterday lunchtime.

Sgt Pat Shakespeare of West Mercia Police said a car had reversed out of a parking space outside the Nat West Bank and then, for some unknown reason, accelerated at speed into a crowd of shoppers and stallholders at one end of the market.

“It’s a devastating thing to happen. I was shocked to hear it. There’s a sense of devastation. How can something like that happen on a Friday? I pray that everyone effected can make a recovery.”
Sounds just like a politician who is duty-bound to make an ” oh dear..what a shame.” statement – ‘How about ” Well isn’t it about time car parks were free for shoppers and the High Street pedestrianised” ????

So what is the Mayorsaying? It would be acceptable on a Tuesday?
