County cricketers in action
Sunday 18th April 2010, 9:00AM BST.
Shropshire cricketers will be battling for places in the opening game of the season when a full scale internal practice match is staged today.
Wellington will host the 50-over game between two teams made up of the county’s elite players.
It begins at noon and will be played under the rules of the Minor Counties Cricket Association Trophy.
Shropshire’s first round-robin game in that competition comes on Sunday week when they host Cumberland at Shifnal.
“It’s important we get some cricket on grass before that first game,” said captain Ed Foster. “We have brought together 22 players who could be pushing for a place now and in the next few years so it should be a good day.”
Foster will captain one team, with vice-captain Matt Tilt leading the other, with new professional Chris Murtagh amongst the players on show. Spectators are welcome.
Team A: Ed Foster (c), Alex Huxley, Tom Cox, Rob Foster, Anthony Parker (wk), Simon Harding, Steve Taylor, Andy Gray, Wendall Wagner, Dan Bowen, Tom Weaver. Team B: Jono Whitney, Will Parton, Chris Murtagh, Joe Leach, Martyn Davies, Matt Tilt (c, wk), Mark Downes, Jonty Mountford, Anthony O’Connor, Mark Robinson, Elliot Green.
