Letter: Bus station is a disgrace

Shrewsbury bus station

Letter: I totally agree with your correspondent (Starmail, April 3).

Shrewsbury bus station has become an absolute pit.

The escalating anti-social behaviour is exactly as described, and I recently had to enlist the aid of the shop- keeper to put out a fire in a rubbish bin resulting from this.

Also, I have seen several individuals who I believe are known to the police, hanging out there.

The toilets are disgusting and frequently a foul smell from them pervades the nearby bus queues.

Is this the impression we wish to give to visitors to Shrewsbury?

It has been vile for years, I avoid it as much as possible- very depressing disgusting place! Why anyone would want to hang out there, I can’t imagine.

hear hear, ive been saying this for some time, its so important that transport hubs are improved in physical appearance because they are the gateways to the town and what people judge us on, with this in mind im delighted to see the rail station improved but there is some awful sites to the north on approaching shrewsbury you pass by the battlefield site soon to be developed into a shiny metal rubbish burner ruining the view then you go through ditherington which is a dump and pass through derelict land in castlefields etc, the view must be improved, for the rail station and the bus station yes

i used to be a driver on buses 10 years ago i always complained to right people the council and the bus company. but as i can see 10 years later nothing has changed. just goes to show the local council and image of shrewsbury dosent really matter as long as they keep comments like this out the papers. So tourists visiting dont know what its like till they get to bus station. By the way why dont you build a outside pay toilets manned like they do in wales, at least they smell would be alot better, oh forgot not enough money in the pot as the excuse was then.
