Letter: Levies are funding new posts

Friday 16th April 2010, 3:27PM BST.

Are we so spineless as a population that in these enlightened times, we participate in this toxic environment that we refer to as democracy?

Every few years we elect a national government based on what it promises, or on what the previous government did or didn’t do.

Since the late 70s we have lived in a neo-liberalistic; market-forces led state.

Who, other than us subservient donkeys, would pay tax after tax to the government and then pay to park to spend money and pay even more tax.

I do not have issue with my taxes going toward keeping others clothed and fed, by employing them to perform tasks that are a little superfluous.

I do however object to these people commanding salaries in excess of the median national wage.

The latest little gem is asking, nay, demanding that we sort our rubbish.

Why does my council tax increase when I am doing someone’s job? Could it be that with the money saved another little post has been invented. Ha.

Andy, what a great letter, I agree with you 100%.
Hence the reason I left that once great country.
Things have changed so much in the last 40 years from when Councillors and the Council served the community.
Now they consider the Public as servants to their needs.

Andy, you create the rubbish in the first place, is it really beyond your wit to put the paper in one bin, the glass and cans in another and the green waste in a different wheelie bin? If so let me know and I’ll get my kids to come round and help you to see how it’s done.

this letter is crazy, the whole point of recycling is that its saving the counciltax payer money on waste disposal, even the tories, any recycling as they are, arent seriously proposing to go back on the last 10 years of massive success in this country transforming us from the dirty man of europe with black bags to landfill to a comprehensive national recycling led waste service which is almost on par with the europeans now in terms of recycling and composting rates

sounds like this letter writer has been listening the conservatives or something, his rant is backwards from the 60′s harking back to some old fashioned dream of a society which never really existed outside of hollywood, i am proud to live in modern britain, its a great place to live and im also more than happy to sort my waste for the council, after all those lads work in all weather at 6am collecting YOUR rubbish, is it too much to ask to wash it and make it slightly easier for them by following the rules requested on the instructional leaflets?
