Chambers wants Bucks to finish on a high

Larry Chambers (Picture by James Baylis)Larry Chambers today rallied promotion flops AFC Telford United to finish the season on a high, declaring: “We owe the fans a performance.”

The Bucks bring down the curtain on a disappointing home campaign in the Blue Square North with the visit of Corby Town tomorrow. The whole season ends in a week’s time away at Vauxhall Motors.

Telford are out of play-off contention but Corby, who have won three in a row, remain in the race for a top five finish.

And assistant manager Chambers is eager to make sure that his side does not roll over tamely, even though there is little at stake for them.

“It’s our final home game of the season, and we haven’t really given the fans a lot to cheer about,” said Chambers, who is still waiting to learn if he and boss Rob Smith will be retained for next season.

“We’d be the first to admit that it’s been disappointing, and it would be nice to at least finish with a good home performance.

“The last one here against Gloucester was pretty inept and we all have to show some individual pride.”

Telford expect right-back Lee Vaughan to be available, with no verdict from the FA yet regarding his misconduct charge.

Vaughan is likely to start, with Jon Adams expected to miss out due to a hamstring injury.

Centre-back Shane Killock is out, Chambers admitting: “It’s doubtful he’ll play again this season.

“He went to see the physio at Huddersfield (his former club) on Wednesday, and had it confirmed that he’s damaged his knee ligaments.”

Killock’s regular partner Adam Dugdale will be serving a one-game ban following his dismissal at Ilkeston on Easter Saturday.

With the young duo out, midfielder Carl Rodgers is set to deputise at the heart of the defence.
