Three-car smash on M54
Thursday 15th April 2010, 2:01PM BST.
Two people were trapped in their vehicles after a three-car smash which closed one side of Shropshire’s M54 today.
The crash, between junction 5 for Telford town centre and junction 4 for Priorslee, caused tailbacks of just over a mile.
The incident happened on the eastbound carriageway just after 9am today. It was reopened just before 10.30am.
Fire crews from Tweedale, Wellington and Telford were sent to the scene along with paramedics and motorway police.
One man was taken to hospital by ambulance with minor shoulder injuries.
Meanwhile, three people – including an eight-year-old boy – were taken to hospital after the car they were travelling in was involved in a collision with a 4×4 in a narrow lane off Penkridge Hall Lane, Leebotwood, near Church Stretton, yesterday.
Emergency services said the driver of the car, a man in his 70s, suffered a facial injury in the collision. A woman passenger, also in her 70s, suffered a minor head injury and an eight-year-old boy suffered minor seatbelt injuries. Both were taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
Claire Thomas, a spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said the incident happened at about 12.30pm and an ambulance and rapid response vehicle were sent to the scene.
