Taxpayers’ debt clock visits county
Thursday 15th April 2010, 12:50PM BST.
The TaxPayers’ Alliance “debt clock” was visiting Ludlow and Bridgnorth today as part of its 1,300-mile tour of Britain.
As the UK counts down to the election, the lorry-mounted clock is counting up the national debt.
The clock, believed to be the biggest LED-display clock in the world, calls on politicians to “wake up to the national debt”.
It was arriving at Ludlow Food Centre this afternoon and was later due at Bridgnorth market.
It will count up the UK’s debt at a breakneck speed including £5,168 per second, £310,121 per minute, £18,607,305 per hour and £446,575,342 per day.
It started its tour on April 12 showing a national debt figure of £781,512,328,767 and by the time the tour ends on April 26, it will have hit £788,210,958,904 – a rise of £6,698,630,137.

We are in deep trouble! The previous government’s mismanagement of the economy is criminal neglect.
Government waste and the national debt will be the subject of future generations, thanks to Mr (Prudence) Brown who seems to have lost the plot, big time. Government waste, including the
£90 Billion quangos employed by the Labour government, means that we all become poorer in the end.
Perhaps we should change the model as it does not work and never did!
