Defiant boss Paul Simpson has vowed to carry on fighting for a play-off place – despite Shrewsbury Town’s on-going Prostar Stadium goal drought.

Last night’s 0-0 stalemate with Cheltenham means Town have now failed to find the net in four successive home games.

In terms of League position, Shrewsbury lost no ground on a busy night of League action – they remained 12th and six points off the top seven.

But with just four games remaining their hopes of a late charge are fast receding, although Simpson insists his side will not give up hope.

“We wanted this to be a big week for us and were looking to try and take maximum points,” he added.

“Now we can’t do that but we have taken four points from these two last two games.

“We won’t give up. Other people have already given up on us but we have to keep going and keep believing.

“Everybody has got to play each other and we have got games against teams above us.

“We just have to keep going and see where it takes us, but we have to start by getting a win on Saturday (at home to Lincoln).”

Simpson admitted his side’s failure to finish off opportunities and create more chances in the final third was disappointing.

“It’s just frustrating we haven’t taken three points out of it,” said the Town boss.

“We had to defend at times and David Button has made some good saves.

“I’m delighted we have another clean sheet but you have to take your chances.

“We have had some fantastic chances and if you don’t take them, you don’t get anything out of it.

“Jamie Cureton’s was the best (in the final 15 minutes) but we had other opportunities.

“Benjamin van den Broek and Steve Leslie gave us a spark when they came on but there were times throughout when we didn’t quite pick the right pass in the final third.”

l Shrewsbury reserves were this afternoon playing Sheffield Wednesday at Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t it actually 7 points needed for a playoff place due to goal difference? That’s 2 wins and a draw in anyones book (providing the other teams do stfc the favour of not winning any matches)!

P.S love the picture of simmo with all the empty seats behind him, how appropriate!

Funny how the team captain told radio Shropshire that playoffs were out of the question!

Stop kidding yourselves town, but now is the time to make some real tactical and player changes, something where a few chances are taken without any fear of saying we didn’t try, but,you must be brave and confident a thing which seems to be lacking, believe in yourselves.
