O’Connor is happy with Bucks

Former Wolves midfielder Kevin O’Connor is eager to stay at AFC Telford United – and hopes to have his future resolved before the end of the season.
O’Connor, who today became the latest player to offer his backing to under-fire management duo Rob Smith and Larry Chambers, has proved one of the season’s few highlights.
The 24-year-old came on board in January, having decided to revive his career in the non-League game a year after retiring due to a nerve injury.
“I’ve been very happy playing here, I’ve really enjoyed my football,” said O’Connor, who has previously played in the Championship for Wolves.
“I’ve not sat down with anyone to speak about next year yet, but it’s something I’m hoping to do soon. It will be interesting to see what the chairman has to say.
“I feel I need a good pre-season and I’ll be able to build from there,” he added.
“I’ve not been at 100 per cent but I’m hoping to stay and show what I can do.”
Telford are out of contention for the Blue Square North play-offs with two games to go and no decision has yet been taken on Smith and Chambers, who are out of contract in the summer.
But O’Connor believes it would be hasty to axe them now, insisting that they are the right men for the job.
“I strongly agree that they should be staying and I hope they do,” he said.
“I’ve only been here a few months, but it’s clear that they really know their stuff, and the players respect them as well.
“The manager Rob Smith, Chambo and our coach Steve (Wynn) have all got their heads screwed on.
“They’re professional, they like to do things the right way and I’d like to be playing for them next season.
“It’s frustrating things haven’t worked out, but us players have to take responsibility,” he added. “If they are here next season, then I think we would do well.”
