Out of control dogs knock over baby in pushchair
Tuesday 13th April 2010, 2:04PM BST.
Two large dogs attacked another in Shrewsbury’s Quarry, knocking over a baby in a pushchair. The baby’s mother, who was walking with her child and her pet husky, was left shaken and upset.
Police in the town are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward with information.
Police spokeswoman Maria Hawkaluk said that as the woman walked past a man with two large dogs, similar to Newfoundlands, he began shouting at her.
His dogs were reported to be pulling at their leads before breaking free and attacking her husky.
Miss Hawkaluk said: “A member of the public stepped in to help pull the dogs apart and one of the large animals knocked over the woman’s pushchair.
“Fortunately, her baby was not injured.”
She added: “The owner of the two dogs is then alleged to have grabbed hers by the collar and behaved in an aggressive manner, before she took her dog back and walked away, shaken and upset.
“The police were called and attended the area. A search was carried out but the man and his two dogs were not found.”
The incident happened at about 3pm on Saturday.
The town’s Quarry park is a popular venue with dog walkers.
The man is described as white, in his 50s with a skinny build and grey hair.
He was wearing a white or light coloured shirt and grey trousers.
One of his dogs was black and the other brown and white.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Shrewsbury Police on 0300 333 3000.
Information can also be passed on via the confidential Crimestoppers number 0800 555 111.

I can’t understand why dogs aren’t banned from the Quarry. I am of the opinion that all dogs should be muzzled in public.

I’m tired of dogs in and around the quarry being allowed off their leads. I’m all for dogs being alowed freedom etc. but perhaps such a busy public area isn’t the right place.
As a runner this is a particular problem as several times i have been confronted by agressive dogs. I actually witnessed a jogger get bit in the thigh by a loose dog just last week.
People need to be more courteous to other people and control their animals.

This is a major problem that must be addressed by the police and then the courts if need be. We have a dog we take it for walks very where that is allowed and out in the country we let her off the lead but if approached by a walker or other dog owner put her back on as a matter of course its called manners and thinking of others.
However we encounter some owners who dont and think it is fine for their dog to jump all over you and your dog why???. We also have a problem in our area of dog owners allowing their dogs to come on to the public highway to bark and growl at you and your dog why??. In fact a few years ago a farmer not far from us who lets his dog roam on to the public highway allowed his dog to bite my wife and the incident was reported to the police and acted on , the farmers wifes defence was i’ve livd here longer a bit of a porky that one? and she was told she did not own the public highway and to control her dog but alas 2 years later they still let their out of controll dog wonder on to the public highway??.The thing is are these people just thick and stupid?? or are they as it is breaking the law having an out of control dog in a public place just plain and simple criminals who need to be brought before the courts banned from keeping dogs and issued with asbos??.

You are joking? Dogs on leads is one thing, but banning them is not on.

All dogs should be: on a lead, muzzled, licenced & liability insured, when in a public place.
Tough penalties of owners who both neglect and mishandle their animals.

Bringing back dog licences may be the way ahead, but expensive insurance and muzzles because some owners are stupid, isn’t fair.
