Town criers and crowds at Blists Hill museum on Saturday, April 10

The world’s tallest town crier led a big shout out for a top Shropshire tourist attraction in its attempt to win a £100,000 funding jackpot. Martin Wood was at Blists Hill Victorian Town.

He led hundreds of visitors at the museum on the edge of the Ironbridge Gorge to shout as loud as they could to pledge their support.

The 7ft 2in tall Shrewsbury town crier appeared as the attraction still led the way in the chase for the £100,000 Art Fund Prize 2010 for Museums and Galleries – the largest cash boost of its kind in the UK.

The museum is up against stiff competition including the Natural History Museum and Hampton Court and more than 300 supporters voiced their support for the campaign at the weekend.
