Ludlow Green Party candidate Jacqui Morrish has put her money – and time – where her mouth is when it comes to saving the planet.

Her environmentally-responsible home, near Bishop’s Castle, is fully equipped with energy-saving features like eco-friendly insulation and a wind turbine.

She’s even graduated from the Open University in recent years with an environment-related degree.

Ms Morrish hit the campaign trail in Bishop’s Castle on Friday.

“The response to the Green agenda has been exceptionally positive,” she said. “People see us as the party of fairness.

“Environmental issues are particularly important in a rural area like south Shropshire and Bridgnorth, which is sensitive to climate change.”

Ms Morrish said she hoped that her involvement in the election would encourage more people to think local, even if it did not ultimately lead to a seat in the Houses of Parliament.

She added: “A lot of the people I’ve met want to do their bit at a local level.

“They want to support local farmers and food producers, to help our market towns, they want to see investment in renewable energy, they want more affordable housing and they want us to create a fairer society.

“They also want local action, for instance, a lot of people have backed my campaign for new 20mph speed limits in our local towns and urban areas.”

Ms Morrish said her message had been warmly received by many locals.

On the campaign trail she met Kate Evans, of Mainstone, who said: “I am interested in some of the policies.

“The party seems to have thought about how it would fund them, too.”

Jim Gaffney, from Textile Traders, in Bishop’s Castle, who was the town’s mayor and was also a former Green Party candidate, added: “The environment and a fairer society are at the top of a lot of local people’s agendas.”
