Blast fears as power cut off

Saturday 10th April 2010, 11:30AM BST.

Homes and businesses in Shropshire were left without power after a power surge left residents fearing there had been an explosion.

Police were called to Uffington, near Shrewsbury, yesterday at about 4.10pm after reports of a loud bang.

Power company E.ON confirmed there had been no explosion but a fault in an overhead line had occurred.

Power to the area was restored by about 7.30pm.
