Plenty to play for is Larry’s message
Friday 9th April 2010, 9:18AM BST.
AFC Telford United have been urged to restore personal pride when they make the long trip to on-song Workington tomorrow.
The Bucks’ Blue Square North play-off ambitions ended with Easter defeats to Ilkeston and Gloucester.
It has left the Bucks ninth ahead of a game which will be played out against an intriguing backdrop after chairman Lee Carter promised “brutal changes” were on the way.
But assistant manager Larry Chambers insists his side have plenty to prove tomorrow against a side who have won six consecutive games to clamber up to sixth.
“Everyone is playing for pride after Monday’s performance and nobody is exempt from that,” said Chambers.
“There isn’t a lot to play for in terms of league position but there was is plenty to play for in terms of professionalism and pride.
“Workington are really flying. A few weeks ago there were about seven teams after two positions in the play-offs and their run has put them in prime position.
“But it’s about what we do tomorrow and we want to put things right after Monday.”
Full back Lee Vaughan returns to the Telford squad but centre half Shane Killock will miss out.
“Shane took a knock to his knee which hasn’t responded well,” added Chambers of the former Oxford United man.
“It looks like we could be without Shane for the rest of the season.”
