Cureton eyes cure and longer stay

Friday 9th April 2010, 12:16PM BST.

Jamie CuretonFrustrated forward Jamie Cureton is eyeing a Shrewsbury Town backlash at Crewe – after revealing he would be tempted by an extended stay at the Prostar Stadium.

Town’s horrendous run of six straight defeats sees them head into tomorrow’s mid-table clash with their League Two play-off aspirations all but washed up.

But the well-travelled marksman Cureton, who has yet to score since his arrival on loan from Norwich in the middle of February, is eyeing a turnaround in collective and personal fortunes.

“It has been an awful run and I can’t remember one like this in my career,” said the 34-year-old.

“It’s difficult to know what has gone wrong because we look bright in training and yet we go out there on a Saturday and everyone is playing way short of their capabilities.

“Personally it’s been hugely disappointment because I wanted to come in, help the team do well and score goals. “It’s not turned out that way but there are still games to go.

“I just want to get some goals and the team wants to get wins to get the smiles back on people’s faces.

“If we can get a couple of of wins in the next two games, we will see where it takes us but we are just concentrating on getting it right at Crewe tomorrow.”

Cureton, who admitted he can understand the frustration of supporters, is unsure of his plans for next season.

But the striker, who has 204 career goals to his name, admitted he would ponderr a long-term switch to Town.

“I would definitely consider it if the option was there,” added Cureton. “I’m out of contract in the summer so I will have to look at my options.

“I think Shrewsbury is a great club and I’ve enjoyed everything about it apart from the results.”

Striker Jake Robinson is ruled out tomorrow with an on-going medial ligament problem, while defender Kelvin Langmead is rated as doubtful with a rib problem.

# Tickets for the game at Crewe will now be available on the day from the away ticket office. And Crewe accept cash and cards at the office.
