Cashier hit in face by robbers in Telford raid
Friday 9th April 2010, 11:17AM BST.
A cashier was pinned against a wall and punched in the face as robbers made off with cigarettes and sweets in a raid on a Telford petrol station.
The robbery happened at Murco Service Station in Sutton Hill, just before 9pm on Wednesday.
Police said two men entered the shop at the station in Bridgnorth Road and approached the counter, asking Nathan Selva, 30, for several packets of cigarettes.
Telford police spokesman Chris Ammonds said: “While the cashier was reaching for the cigarettes he noticed that the second man was filling his pockets with sweets and challenged him.
“When the second man was challenged, the first man made his way behind the counter and pushed the cashier against the wall. He then punched the cashier in the face and pushed him to the ground before stealing a number of packets of cigarettes.
“This was a frightening incident for the cashier but thankfully he has not suffered any serious injuries as a result of it.”
Mr Selva said: “I am back at work today and determined not to let it affect me.”
