Furious Carter promises Bucks changes

Thursday 8th April 2010, 11:34AM BST.

Lee CarterChairman Lee Carter has vowed to make “brutal” changes as AFC Telford United come to terms with their miserable Blue Square North campaign.

The Bucks are six points adrift of the play-off places with three games to go – a long way short of the lofty targets set at the start of the season.

And Carter admits the process of evaluation has already begun, with change necessary to ensure that the atmosphere around the club is transformed for the 2010-11 campaign.

“We have blown it this season,” said Carter. “I’m disappointed in our performance this year.

“I’m angry and ashamed but I can tell you that I am determined to put it right.

“We said in January that we were evaluating everything at this club from the bottom up. April will be the second phase and I can tell you it will be brutal.

“There are people who have taken pennies out of the pockets of this football club this season who should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves,” he added.

“As custodians, the Board will make sure those people never earn a penny out of this club again. It is imperative that we go into 2010-11 in a positive frame of mind, with the stands full, rejuvenated and passionate once again.”

Carter revealed that falling attendances are a primary concern this season.

The Bucks have averaged 1,577 for home games, down from 1,973 last term – and they got just 1,577 for the 1-0 defeat to Gloucester on Easter Monday.

“An attendance of 1,500 for a Bank Holiday fixture is a significant drop, and that’s been consistent for some time now,” said Carter.

“For Workington on Saturday, it could be the first time in six years that we haven’t been able to raise enough people for a supporters coach to go to a Saturday game.

“That’s a concern to us as a Board of directors. We met on Tuesday night and we’re in constant discussion. It’s a crucial period in our history and I can say that we have already started formalising some strong ideas.”

Your chairman will never dodge difficult decisions .Neither will he be swayed by the drunken rantings of an unemployed 60 year old who still lives with his mother and spends his spare time with horses.
