Appeal for voters to be registered
Thursday 8th April 2010, 9:18AM BST.
Returning officer for the Shropshire Council area, Kim Ryley, is urging people to make sure they are registered to vote on May 6.
The deadline for registering is April 20, which is the also the deadline for applying for a postal vote. Anyone wanting to organise a proxy vote must do so by April 27.
People can register by calling the council on 0345 678 9015 or by visiting the Electoral Commission’s website at www.about myvote.co.uk
Mr Ryley said: “Now the date has been set for the election, you really need to make sure you are ready to vote.
“We have been doing all we can to inform people about their right to vote, and are really keen to ensure everyone has their say on election day.
“We sent a registration form to every local household last autumn, and now is the time to make sure you have returned it.
“If you’re not sure, or if you have moved house since then and have not registered with your new details, you need to register now.”
