Wolves midfielder Adlene Guedioura feels ‘on trial’ in the battle to win the race to replace captain Karl Henry.

Starting in Sunday’s derby against Stoke, Guedioura is one of the main contenders with Dave Edwards to come in for the skipper, who starts a three-match ban for his dismissal against Arsenal.

The 24-year-old on-loan Charleroi man has not started the last three games after being taken off at half-time in the 2-2 draw with Villa, although has come on as a sub in two of them.

Despite impressing in his time in England with his powerful displays and quality touch, the French-Algerian acknowledges his battle to regain a spot in the starting line-up.

He said: “Now I’m out of the team I have to show I can get back in by training well every day.

“Like every player I really want to be involved in every match, so I have to work again to prove to the gaffer I can be in the starting line-up.

“I enjoyed coming on against Everton and getting involved. I am hoping to do more of what I did when I came into the team. Whether the gaffer gives us two, or five or 20 minutes, it’s up to us to use that time to show what we can do.

“Every minute you spend on the pitch is important.”

Guedioura is an all-action player similar to Henry, but the younger man admits the skipper’s boots are big ones to fill.
