School fire is tackled

Wednesday 7th April 2010, 1:39PM BST.

More than 50 firefighters today battled a blaze which broke out in the roof of a Telford school.

They even managed to rescue pupils’ artwork from a nearby classroom during the incident at Thomas Telford School in Old Park just after 8.30am.

The alarm was raised by a cyclist riding near the school who saw smoke billowing from a main building at 8.40am.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
