Pair went to aid of teenager
Wednesday 7th April 2010, 11:29AM BST.
Police are trying to trace two good Samaritans who went to the aid of a teenager who was being attacked by three youths in the grounds of a Shropshire church.
The 17-year-old victim was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital with an injured jaw and cuts to his nose and mouth following the incident at Shrewsbury’s St Chad’s Church.
Officers believe the two members of the public who intervened to stop the assault will be able to help with their investigation.
Constable Lee Saunders said the victim was with his girlfriend when approached by three youths, aged 16 or 17, in Claremont Street at between 1pm and 2pm on Thursday.
He said: “A verbal altercation took place and the three males escorted the injured party along with his girlfriend up to the grounds of St Chad’s Church where he was assaulted by being punched to the face and upper body by two of the males. Two unidentified members of the public interrupted the attack and the three male offenders made off.
“I would ask the two people who assisted the victim to contact Shrewsbury police station.”
