Blair out to repay bosses at Bucks

Wednesday 7th April 2010, 11:29AM BST.

Newest recruit Matt Blair will bid to put AFC Telford United’s play-off pain to one side – and repay the men who brought him to the club.

Blair only joined from Redditch last month, but has been on the losing side in three of his four Blue Square North outings to date.

Telford are now six points adrift of the play-offs with just three games to go, and their hopes of a top five finish look to be over.

But Blair insists he is still motivated by a desire to prove that managers Rob Smith and Larry Chambers were right to bring him in.

“Now that the play-offs seem gone, it looks like we’ve got nothing else to play for,” said Blair.

“But if you look at it from a personal point of view, you’ve got personal pride and you’ve also got next season to think about as well.

“Rob and Larry have been brilliant bringing me here and they’ve been brilliant to me, and I want to give them something back – even if it’s just the last three games.

“I’ll keep going until the job’s done. I know come Saturday that I’ll give everything again.”

Blair signed terms to the end of the season when he joined from Telford’s Worcestershire neighbours, and has as yet had no discussions about next term.

Change in the summer is inevitable, with just three players – Danny Carey-Bertram, Shane Killock and Sean Newton – contracted for the 2010-11 campaign.

But Blair would like to remain at the club, insisting promotion to the Blue Square Premier should be the target next time around.

“I want to stick at it no matter what,” he said.

“I don’t know where I’m going to be next season, but I’d more than happily stay here to help get Telford to where it deserves to be.”
