Church haul is returned

Tuesday 6th April 2010, 10:10AM BST.

Hundreds of pounds’ worth of historical items have been found after being stolen from a church in Powys.

Thieves stole brass candlesticks, a brass cross and brass collection plates from the altar area of Meifod Parish Church last month.

Now they have been returned after a passer-by found them in a rubbish bin in Welshpool.

The Reverend Warren Williams, of Meifod Parish Church, said: “The items were of huge historical religious value and could not have been replaced, so we are very thankful for their safe return.”
