Shrews bus in M6 collision after 2-1 loss
Monday 5th April 2010, 10:14AM BST.
A bus carrying Shrewsbury Town players back from a match was involved in a collision with a car on the M6, the manager said today.
Players, support staff and Paul Simpson were on the bus.
They were travelling back after the 2-1 defeat at Plainmoor to Torquay United on Saturday when the crash happened.
Speaking in a video posted on the official Shrewsbury Town website, Mr Simpson said it was fortunate nobody was hurt in the incident.
He said the smash happened on the M6 near Cannock and caused problems for traffic on the M6 and possibly the M5 as a result.
“It was quite a scary moment really,” he said.
Speaking about the journey back to Shrewsbury, he said that 10 miles from Cannock the bus and a car, which was using the slip road, were involved in a minor collision.
He said: “We just clipped the front of the car and the lady driving it ended up getting thrown across the two carriageways.
“She took a couple of cars out and both the M6 and probably the M5 was brought to a standstill.”
He added: “I’m pleased to say nobody at all was hurt, no-one on the bus was hurt but more importantly the lady driving, who had a baby in the car, was not hurt either.”
A spokeswoman from West Midlands Ambulance Service said they did not attend. No-one was available for comment from Shrewsbury Town or Central Motorways Police today.
