Henry hits out over red card ‘joke’
Monday 5th April 2010, 2:25PM BST.
The Gunners kept alive their Barclays Premier League title hopes after a stoppage-time winner from Nicklas Bendtner ended Wolves’ brave resistance to earn a 1-0 win.Arsenal, who travel to Barcelona next week for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final, had made seven changes to the starting line-up, but still dominated.
Wolves’ job was made even harder after 65 minutes when referee Andre Marriner produced a red card after Henry had gone through the back of Tomas Rosicky. Following the late tackle, the Arsenal players surrounded Marriner, calling for stern action to be taken.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger feels given the recent history of serious injury to players like Eduardo and Aaron Ramsey, who suffered a double leg break at Stoke in February, the reaction of his team was perhaps understandable.
However, Henry – now set to serve a ban as Wolves battle to stay in the top flight, unless the club are successful in an appeal to the Football Association – was left less than impressed by the whole incident.
“I thought they were lucky getting a goal and lucky the referee sent me off, which was an absolute joke,” Henry declared.

“I thought they were lucky getting a goal and lucky the referee sent me off, which was an absolute joke,” Henry declared.
“I have gone in to win it, Rosicky has gone across me to shield the ball. By that time, I have already gone to ground.
“One of their players has come in, (Thomas) Vermaelen flying in and whoever else, trying to get me sent off.
“I certainly wouldn’t be running over, trying to get a player sent off.“I have seen it again and I have nicked the ball. It was never a red card, it is an absolute disgrace.
“Rosicky went off for treatment to the back of his calf, which did have stud marks, but was soon able to continue. “He is up and running around two minutes later, absolutely fine.”

“Henry hits out” , well makes a change from stamping on Walcott’s legs and attacking studs up from behind. My heart bleeds for him ,but not as much as the cuts on Rosicky’s leg.

Henry went through the back of the player with your studs up, the stud marks on his lower calf and ankle are there for everyone to see when been bandaged. He stamped and put his weight on England’s Theo Walcott earlier in the match and the ref ignored it. Henry then fell over like a “bag of spuds ” to win a cheap free kick. If Henry thinks his type of tackles are OK – he is a danger to other players and the game.

the only joke is that wolves players/management/fans actually think that sliding through the back of a player, studs up, at 100 mph and totally missing the ball is not a red card.
Bunch of losers. Looking forward to seeing you again next season for another easy 6 points.

This guy, Karl Henry, is an absolutely dirty player yet he is the one complaining. I think he ought to have his brain check out. He was committing several fouls in the early part of the match and he got away without a yellow. The referee must have remember the numerous fouls he had committed before senting him off. He it like hell.

Dear Karl,
You tackled a player from behind, sliding, out of control, through theback of his legs with no chance of getting the ball. You took the player out. Which ever way you cut it, this is a dangerous tackle and a straigh red. The joke is that you and players like you think this type of challenge is acceptable. It is not. The rules are clear. That was a pub team tackle. I applaud the ref for getting that one absolutely spot-on despite what the so called experts and dinosaur pundits have said. As it happens, the rules were clarified in 1998, wee after most of these dinosaus ramed the pitch. They are there to protect players from that kind of tackle. Sadly the rule is not applied well enough generally, if it was it might encourage third rate muppets like you to learn to tackle properly, and idiot managers like McCarthy, Pulis, Bruce and so on to teach tackling. Allardyce should just be booted out. So think on Karl, your tackle could easily have done real damage. You would complain bitterly if a player did the same to you.

Stop whining henry, you gave it like a man, so take it like a man. Or do you have to break a leg before the ref give you the red card? Common sense tells you that your tackle coming at that speed from behind the player is definitely going to hurt him. period. Pls grow up, you’re the team captain, not sissy.

So it’s alright to kick people and then blame them because you get sent off. Tell Mr Henry to read the rules of the game he plays, you are not allowed to slide into another player from behind and not get the ball. Unless of course wolves have a different set of rules to other clubs?

so it was a joke decision? TV close ups showed 3 black and one red stud mark half way up rosicky’s calf. Thats the back of the leg and higher than the ball.
Cant say as it made me laugh? what does constitute a red card in Haeny’s world?

Arsene Wenger, not known for seeing incidents clearly, thought the red card was “harsh”. Respected defender Alan Hansen on Match of the Day, who knows a good tackle when he sees one, claimed the red card was “ridiculous”. The tackle was hard and fair, winning the ball first, the type of which now seems to be outlawed in the modern day namby pamby game.God help these players if they’d had to face Tommy Smith or Norman Hunter in the 70′s. How dare those Midland oiks dare to tackle one of Arsenal’s precious primadonnas? Stoke fans among many others will agree that you cannot touch one of their players without risking the wrath of the paranoid prawn sandwich brigade who want you to allow them to pass the ball around in pretty circles and win every game 6-0.Watch Rosicky falling and writhing in BAFTA winning form after the tackle, witness the Arsenal players surrounding the ref to get a fellow player sent off, then notice Rosicky back on his feet seconds later running for a through ball.Well done Karl Henry for saying it as it is. Watch Barcelona run rings round them on Tuesday, and watch far worse fouls being committed and going unpunished by a red card.
