Shrews’ Dave Hibbert in back to basics call
Saturday 3rd April 2010, 12:30PM BST.
Leading scorer Dave Hibbert has urged Shrewsbury Town to get back to basics as they prepare for an Easter Monday cracker against League Two’s form team.
Notts County are the visitors to the Prostar Stadium on Monday (3pm) with the Magpies eyeing a push for both automatic promotion and the League Two title
Steve Cotterill’s side were unbeaten in 10 games before this afternoon’s home clash with Bury.
In contrast, Shrewsbury have failed to take a point or score a goal in their previous four games before today’s long trip to Torquay.
But Hibbert is confident Shrewsbury can overturn the form book and secure a much-needed home success.
“We have got to be ready for Monday,” said the 14-goal hitman.
“Last week was difficult but we can’t dwell on it too much and we have to look ahead.
“We have got to start playing a lot better than we have been and we have got to get back to basics, creating chances as a team and hopefully converting them.
“There seems to be a lack of confidence but we need to pull together and work hard for each other.
“A week is a long time in football. Easter has given us two big games and things could look a lot better in a few days time.”
Manager Paul Simpson has urged his side to take encouragement from the first game between the two sides at Meadow Lane in October, when County were forced to rely on a late equaliser to salvage a 1-1 draw.
“We showed at Notts County we can compete,” said the Town boss.
“If we play like we have done in the last four (before today), we won’t come anywhere near them.
“But I know the players we have got here are better than what they have shown in the last four.”
