Ryan bidding to be AFC Telford United legend

Goalkeeper Ryan Young has set his sights on staying at AFC Telford United – and becoming a club legend.
The 30-year-old was racking up his 168th appearance for the club in today’s Blue Square North clash at Ilkeston Town and should build further on that total with Monday’s home clash against Gloucester.
His tally includes a run of 152 consecutive outings dating back to September 2007, when injury meant he missed a game at Hyde.
Young’s contract is up at the end of the season, but he is determined to extend his stay at the club and build on that figure.
“I want to be a Telford legend and play as many games as possible,” he declared.
“I’m nearly at 170 games now, and If I stayed another two seasons I’d be getting close to the 300 bracket.
“I don’t want to go anywhere else.”
Young’s impressive run of first team appearances is testament to his consistency and, going into today’s game, he had kept four clean sheets in his last nine outings.
The former Kettering man has had his critics this season, but he insists any errors have been more noticeable simply because they have been punished more.
“I’ve heard some people say at times that Telford need someone else in goal, and they are entitled to their opinion,” he said.
But I feel I’ve made no more mistakes than last season, they’ve just been highlighted more.
“I always look to try to keep to under 10 mistakes a season.
“Mistakes will always happen and I accept that as long as they are not too often.
“I keep track and I’ve got about five in my head for this season. That’s not bad for 44 games.”
