LETTER:Ever tried getting from south to north Telford at dark o’clock in the morning without the benefit of a car or public transport? It’s very enlightening.
In these times of austerity, Telford & Wrekin civic offices appear to be able to afford to leave two ceiling projectors on over the weekend, regardless of the fire risk and wastage of horrendously expensive bulbs with their limited lifespan. Over the road, the Land Registry was empty, but the rooms were lit up.
Thousands of pounds have been spent on embellishing an otherwise decent cycle path with some truly superfluous road markings and signage only for it to terminate very abruptly at the extremely dangerous island serving Junction 6 of the M54, which for cyclists and pedestrians is the gateway from one side of town to the other.
I’ve learned two things; green transport taxation is a complete bluff when we’re not really encouraged to walk, cycle or ride, and times are not so hard that the custodians of public funds need to practice good housekeeping or sensible expenditure.

No change there, then. It’s called “detached from the real World”.
No idea, or probably more accurately, no interest, in the cost of anything or the logicality of their actions.
Such cloud dreamers are seen all too often in local and national government. The tragedy is, a lot of essential services could probably be maintained if they only improved efficiency and got rid of half the cotton-wool-heads who cause so much money to be wasted with their profligacy and wastefulness.
