NHS dental practice set to open

A village near Oswestry is to get its own NHS dentist’s, the latest new health service for residents.

The dentist’s surgery is to open in the coming weeks in Gobowen, in the former Silo building in the centre of the village.

Shropshire Council speaker David Lloyd, who represents the Selattyn and Gobowen Division on Shropshire Council, welcomed the plans.

He said: “This is great news following on from the recent opening of a new pharmacy in the village and a positive response to our representations for a major village like Gobowen to have key community services at its heart.”

Currently, patients in Gobowen have to travel to Oswestry, Shrewsbury, or even Wrexham to get dental treatment.

Selattyn and Gobowen Parish Council member Ron Jones said it was only right a village the size of Gobowen should have its own dentist’s and said it would complement the new pharmacy which opened recently in a building at the village railway station.

Mr Jones said: “I certainly welcome this because Gobowen is getting bigger and more people are looking for NHS treatment.

“Having it in the village would stop villagers having to travel to Oswestry and find a parking space in town when they want to see their dentist.”
