Exhibition dates set on £100m relief road

Thursday 1st April 2010, 6:59PM BST.

Dates have been announced for a series of exhibitions focusing on the controversial plans to build a £100 million North West Relief Road around Shrewsbury.

Shropshire Council will hold exhibitions around Shropshire from April 22 to 29. The shows will take place at The Gateway, the Darwin Shopping Centre and the Grange School in Shrewsbury, the Four Crosses in Bicton and Perry Hall, in Ruyton XI Towns.

Laura Owen, spokeswoman for Shropshire Council, said public consultation would enable residents to view the details of the project and identify its potential benefits and possible negative impacts.

She said: “We will be gathering people’s views in a number of different ways.

“A survey will be sent to the council’s citizens’ panel. The panel consists of around 1,500 people across the county.
Feedback

“People will be encouraged to e-mail or call us with their comments and suggestions there will be a dedicated phone number 0345 678 9006 and e-mail address nwrr.consultation@shropshire.gov.uk

“People will also be able to give us their feedback via an online survey on our website.”

The first exhibition will be on April 22 and 23 at The Gateway, in Chester Street, in Shrewsbury. The next one will take place on April 24 at The Darwin Shopping Centre and the third event will be on April 26 at The Four Crosses, in Bicton.

The final two exhibitions will be on April 27 at The Grange School, in Shrewsbury and April 29 at Perry Hall, in Ruyton-XI-Towns.

A special Development Services Scrutiny Committee will also be held in July.

She added: “We are also working with many different groups such as landowners, the Environment Agency and English Nature to ensure that all aspects of the scheme are considered, including its potential impacts on the environment.

“The consultation aims to present people with information which addresses the benefits and impacts of the scheme. This will hopefully allow people to make an informed decision about whether they believe that the road should be built or not.”

The consultation feedback will be considered by the council in August.
