Burglars ransacked part of a home in Shrewsbury, stealing more than £4,000 worth of cash, jewellery and electrical items while the occupants were asleep.

A home in Beaumont Terrace, in John Street in Castlefields, was targeted by thieves who forced in a window overnight between 11.45pm on Tuesday and 7.15am yesterday.

The burglars ransacked the ground floor before fleeing with items including computer equipment, watches and jewellery.

Police today launched an appeal for help to trace the burglars and warned that some of the items may be offered for sale.

Constable Bernard Mungeam said: “Some of the property stolen is quite distinctive.”

The stolen items included a black Tag link watch with leather strap, a Rotary watch with a gold square face, an Acer laptop, an Apple iPod, Samsung camera, a Nintendo Wii console, a solid gold bangle bracelet inscribed with the initials HRJ, a white gold wedding band and a white gold rope necklace.
