Family’s pride as Nick walks again
Wednesday 31st March 2010, 8:40AM BST.
A Shropshire soldier who lost both his legs in a landmine blast in Afghanistan has taken part in a parade just two weeks after being fitted with artificial limbs.
Thousands of British and German well-wishers lined the streets to welcome back about 350 men and women from 28 Engineer Regiment following an arduous six-month tour of Afghanistan.
And among those taking part in The Freedom of Hameln parade, in Germany, was 28-year-old Captain Nick Beighton, from Shrewsbury, who set the parade date as a target to be able to walk again after losing both his legs in a mine strike during the early part of the deployment.
Today his mum Sue spoke of the pride she felt in seeing her son take part in the parade.
