Rallying call to save Royal British Legion clubs

We’re all to blame, says Langmead

A dejected Kelvin Langmead
Stand-in skipper Kelvin Langmead has admitted the entire Shrewsbury Town squad must share responsibility for the potentially season-damaging League Two slump.
Town’s promotion dream has been left hanging by a thread after a run of four consecutive defeats in which they have failed to find the net.
Shrewsbury could drop another place to 12th tonight should Accrington register a home victory over Barnet.
And Langmead has admitted each individual must take a long, hard look at themselves ahead of the Easter weekend double header with Torquay and Notts County.
“We have to look at ourselves and the way we are doing things as individuals and then as a collective,” said Langmead, who took over the armband after captain Graham Coughlan was dropped.
“I don’t think there are enough of us doing the right things.
“We are letting ourselves down first and foremost and with that we let the manager down. With the way we are playing we are letting everybody down – the fans, even our families.
“We are not playing well enough or doing our jobs properly.
“We are conceding goals and not scoring goals and that is a recipe for disaster.
“All the goals we have conceded recently have been bad goals and, as defenders we have to take the criticism that we get for that because it’s right.
“We are not creating anything either and that’s not just down to the strikers – that’s as a team.”
Langmead admitted his team have been a soft touch against the division’s strugglers after picking up just one point from four games against the bottom two clubs, Grimsby and Darlington.
“If you want to achieve anything you have to beat the teams near the bottom and get points against the teams near the top,” he added.
“We had got ourselves in a really strong position and we have let ourselves down.
“But you have to keep believing. There are eight games, it’s going to be difficult and we have made it hard for ourselves but you can never give up.”

Credit to Kelvin for having the balls to come out and say something after the debacle on Saturday. At least he and a couple of other players had the decency to stay on the pitch and appluad the fans at the final whistle. It’s a shame that Paul Simpson doesn’t have the decency to face up to what he said and be man offer to give the fans the apology they deserve for his disgraceful post-match remarks.

SHREWSBURY RECENT SLUMP IN FORM HAS NOT SUPPRISED ME. A TEAM THAT HAS NO UNITY OR TOGETHERNESS, WILL NOT SUCCEED. A TEAM THAT IS NOT A CONSISTENT SQUAD OF 18 REGULARS FIGHTING WITH PASSION TO PULL ON A SHIRT COME SATURDAY. THIS IS NOT SEEN DOWN THE PROSTAR. MR SIMPSON CAN BLAME THE FANS TO A POINT AFTER THE DARLO GAME, AS BARRACKING THE PLAYERS FOR GOING A GOAL DOWN SO EARLY WAS NOT CALLED FOR. BUT COME 89 MINUTES OF THE DARLO GAME I FEEL THE FANS HAVE TRUE REASON TO EXPRESS THERE FRUSTRATION. MR SIMPSON NOW NEEDS TO EXCEPT THAT THESE ARE HIS PLAYERS APART FROM LANGMEAD AN HIBBERT ON SATURDAY AND WAS THE ONLY 2 THAT SHOWED ANY SPIRIT. SO WHAT DOES THIS SAY? WAKE UP SIMPSON THEY AINT PLAYING FOR YOU.THIS LEAVES NO OTHER OPTION BUT FOR HIM TO STEP ASIDE, AND ADMIT DEFEAT GRACIOUSLY. GOODBYE

As a season ticket holder im as frustrated as the rest of the fans about our performances but to shout abuse to the players wont do their confidence any good we need to get behind them now more than ever .we can turn it around.

What do we want as a group of supporters.
We are not nor will never be able to compete at Championship level consistantly, i would rather be mid table/play off area, then struggle in League 1.
A club cannot survive and make profit will crowds around 5000. Town fans are a fickle bunch and Prostar will never see 8000 fans every week, which is what would be needed.
So wake up Town fans and be grateful we are not in the Conference or out of business like Chester.

Comments last the last ones really annoy me.
The whole reason behind the move to the new stadium was so that the club could have the infrastructure to progress and yes to the Championship. The Chairman’s own words were he wanted to progress to the Championship within a few years.
Off the field Town are a League 1 club, the turnover is already at a level equivalent with mid-table League 1 clubs, e.g. Walsall and attendances are currently average for League 1 this season. Both turnover and attendances would be expected to rise following a promotion. Sadly on the field we are still very much a League 2 club with little few signs or progress or anything being built.
The club are underachieving given their resources, we are no longer ‘little Shrewsbury Town’ at Gay Meadow. Things have changed and moved on but it seems the views of some fans are still stuck firmly in the past.
