Striker Damian Reeves has swapped a play-off push with AFC Telford United to join UniBond League title contenders Bradford Park Avenue.

Reeves joined from the now-defunct Farsley in November, but his impact at Telford was limited – scoring four goals in 17 appearances.

And, while the Bucks were thrashing Hyde United 4-0 to just about keep their hopes of a top five finish in the Blue Square North alive, Reeves was an unused substitute for Bradford in their surprise 3-2 defeat at Ashton United.

“We brought Mark Beesley in (on loan from Cambridge), and we’ve got Danny Carey-Bertram and Andy Brown, as well as Steve Thompson and Phil Trainer, who can both play in forward positions,” said Telford’s assistant manager Larry Chambers.

“Damian wasn’t going to get enough regular football. We had enquiries from Stafford and Hyde but he’s chosen to go to Bradford Park Avenue and we wish him all the best.”

Meanwhile, Chambers played down Telford’s chances of muscling their way into the play-off positions, admitting his side still had a “massive task” to reach the top five.

“We’re not getting carried away, we’re still playing catch-up,” he said.

“It’s a massive task and we’ve still got a mountain to climb to get into the play-offs, but we got three points on Saturday and all we can do is look after ourselves.”

Beesley and Matt Blair got their first goals for the club in the big win over Hyde, with Brown and Carey-Bertram adding one each in the last five minutes.

Chambers was delighted by the display, but insisted that such a performance had been long overdue.

“Managers get too much credit when things go well, but they also get too much blame when things don’t go well,” he declared.

“I think the players have probably let themselves and the supporters down on too many occasions this season.

“Whether the play-offs are there or not, they’ve got to start showing some pride – I thought they did that on Saturday.”
