Carter: We fight on

Friday 26th March 2010, 6:00PM GMT.

lee carterChairman Lee Carter has urged AFC Telford United’s fans not to give up on the play-off dream, insisting: “We’ll fight to the death.”

The Bucks go into tomorrow’s home clash with Hyde United sitting seventh in the Blue Square North and three points adrift of Droylsden in the final play-off place.

They have gone six games without a win and most of their rivals have games in hand, but Carter wants the supporters to rally round and give the team a lift.

“Why should we throw in any towels and say we’ve given up?” he declared.

“The manager and the players have been analysing themselves, and I know I have been thinking about whether I am part of the solution or part of the problem.

“I think the supporters have to do that now and get behind us, because we’re still in there fighting.

“It gets to me that some people want to throw in the towel far too easily.

“If we’d done that at 11.50am on August 7, 2004 when we had until noon to get the ground lease to the UniBond League and it still hadn’t arrived, then we wouldn’t have a club at all.

“This club is not made of quitters and we’ll keep on fighting.”

Winger Danny Edwards returns to Telford tomorrow after a loan spell with Halesowen, while it is hoped Andy Brown, Sean Newton and Danny Carey-Bertram will all have recovered from a sickness bug.

Steve Thompson did a light training session last night after slightly aggravating his hamstring problem against Stalybridge seven days ago, and will be assessed today.

Right-back Lee Vaughan starts a two-match ban, having been sent off in the 1-1 draw at Hyde two weeks ago.

Telford’s slim play-off hopes received a further boost last night when Stalybridge suffered a 3-2 home defeat to Fleetwood.

They are one place above the Bucks, level on points but with three games in hand.
