Inquest told son slipped on ice
Thursday 25th March 2010, 1:00AM GMT.
A Shrewsbury teenager died when he slipped on ice while delivering Christmas cards with his mother, an inquest heard.
Ashley Williams, 16, of Calder Close, who was described as a “model son” by his mother Julie Williams during today’s inquest, died on December 21 last year.
John Ellery, coroner for North and Mid West Shropshire, recorded a verdict of accidental death at the hearing at Shrewsbury Magistrates’ Court.
He said: “We have heard how Ashley was out delivering Christmas cards on December 20 with his mother. He went to post a card through a door in Bewdley Avenue while she turned the car around.
“As he was approaching the car to get back in he set foot on a driveway, slipped on ice and landed on the concrete.”
The inquest heard how Ashley was rushed to hospital, but died the following day from head injuries.
A statement from Dr Jan Gaeza, specialist at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital said he was unresponsive when medics arrived at the scene and he died from head injuries the following day.
Mr Ellery read a statement on behalf of Mrs Williams at the inquest in which she said he was “the model son”.
