Teenage boy bitten by dog in playground

Wednesday 24th March 2010, 11:02AM GMT.

A 13-year-old boy was bitten by a dog while he played in a north Shropshire playground.

Mother Janine Ward said she was “horrified” when her son Stefan Woolley called her in “a hysterical state” to say he had been attacked.

The teenager needed hospital treatment for his injuries – eight puncture wounds – after the attack at a play area in Childs Ercall, near Market Drayton.

She said: “I called him to say he should come home for his tea, then he called me back in a hysterical state to say he’d been bitten by a dog in the head and shoulder.

“When he got home he was bleeding so I applied pressure pads and took him to the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford. He’s still off school now and is on antibiotics and has had a few blackouts since it happened.”

Stefan, who lives with his mother in the north Shropshire area, was left with six wounds to his head and two to his shoulder.

His mother said she believed the dog was not local to the area.

Police are trying to trace the owner of the dog and have launched an appeal for help.

The animal, described as being similar to a doberman or rottweiler, leapt over a fence to get into the play area, then bit the boy and ran off, officers said.

The incident happened at about 4.30pm on Sunday. Call police on 03003 333000.
