Man, 23, named after car tragedy

A man who died in hospital 11 days after a crash near Shifnal was today named by police as Richard Chetwood.

The 23-year-old, of Hollinswood in Telford, died in the intensive care unit at Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham on March 17 after his Volkswagen Golf GTi collided with a verge and a tree stump.

He was driving along Haughton Road towards Shifnal just after 4pm on March 6 when the collision happened.

A passenger injured in the accident, a man in his late teens, was taken to University Hospital of North Staffordshire, where he was treated for serious fractures.

The third occupant, a man in his 20s, was treated at the Princess Royal Hospital for minor injuries and released.
