Matthew Blair - on his AFC Telford Utd debut - and Steve Woods of Stalybridge Celtic
New boy Matt Blair today promised AFC Telford United fans there is plenty more to come in the remaining six games of the season.
The wide midfielder made his debut in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at home to Stalybridge Celtic in the Blue Square North.
But the 20-year-old, who has signed from Redditch until the end of the season, feels his performance was way short of his best.
“In the first half I thought I was really poor, but as the game went on I got into it a bit more,” said Blair. “I know I can do more.
“I didn’t meet any of the lads until before kick-off and just trying to learn everyone’s name was difficult in itself.”
Blair has also backed the Bucks to reel off a run of six straight wins to end the season and get them back in play-off contention.
Telford have not won in six, but the former Racing Club Warwick, Stratford and Bedworth man feels they should have nothing to fear in their remaining fixtures.
“From what I’ve seen with Redditch of the other teams we’ve still got to play, I’m confident we can get all 18 points,” he declared.
“Then it’s down to what the other contenders do.”
Meanwhile, right-back Lee Vaughan has become the latest player to go down with the stomach bug sweeping through the club.
Vaughan was unable to train last night, but is suspended for the next two games in any case.
Left-back Sean Newton is still struggling with the bug while teacher Andy Brown has so far been unable to go to work this week, but striker Danny Carey-Bertram has recovered.
“I think they should all be okay for Saturday except for Lee Vaughan, and he can’t play in any case,” said assistant manager Larry Chambers.
“We just have to hope that no-one else catches it now.”
