Doyle can deliver the hammer blow

Kevin-Doyle1Wolves’ on-song striker Kevin Doyle has demanded more of the same from the team in tonight’s crucial Barclays Premier League clash against relegation rivals West Ham United at Upton Park.

Wolves are heading into a third successive away game but life on the road is suiting Mick McCarthy’s side as they battle for top-flight survival.

A win at Burnley and Saturday’s impressive display at Aston Villa that earned them a point has seen Wolves open up a four-point gap between themselves and the relegation zone.

But Doyle has vowed no-one at Molineux will be resting on their laurels and he expects to see the same level of performance against a West Ham side who trail Wolves by a point.

Republic of Ireland international Doyle, who will again lead the attack as a lone striker in Mick McCarthy’s 4-5-1 formation, said: “There is no point us putting in such a good performance against Villa and going to a team who are in the same sort of position as ourselves and not putting in a similar performance.

“We have to get something from the game. In the past we have played well against the better teams and the following match struggled against lesser teams.

“We have to make amends against West Ham.

“We know that West Ham will be fancying the win. But we have confidence in ourselves and we can see ourselves getting closer and closer to a safe position.

“We are far from being safe at the moment but every point is vital and if we can get something out of the West Ham game it will be another real bonus.”

Doyle has only scored six goals this season and has not scored for six games.

But McCarthy is full of praise for his contribution to the team and he said: “Doyler has been terrific.”

McCarthy plans to name an unchanged side for the seventh successive match.
