Shropshire pool ace Kevin Uzzell is cueing up to do battle for a 100,000 dollars prize fund in Las Vegas, writes JAMES GARRISON.

The Albrighton nine-ball specialist has booked his place in the 64-man field at the World Masters in May.

Uzzell grabbed the one spot on offer at a qualifying event in London, defeating Germany’s Klaus Zobrekis in the decisive game.

The Las Vegas event will be televised around the world, with the winner receiving 20,000 dollars.

“It is probably the biggest tournament in the world and there will be something like 16 former world champions in it,” said Uzzell.

“My first target will be to get to the last 16 and then we will see what happens.”

Uzzell’s biggest success to date came in 2006 with victory in the Thailand Masters, while he has also won a host of tournaments around Britain.

He qualified for the World Championships for five successive years from 2003 to 2007, during which time he reached the last 32.
